Brtonigla becomes a place where past and present intertwine. The event “In the Colors of Tradition – Harvest Celebration” was created as a special and engaging afternoon tourist itinerary through this picturesque hilltop village, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, just minutes from the sea. It is designed for visitors and locals as an opportunity to discover a romantic and authentic Istria through its rich cultural heritage and traditions.
The program, starting in the afternoon, showcases traditional crafts and skills: cooking corn over an open fire, baking bread in a wood-fired oven, hand-milling grain, making everyday wooden items, basket weaving, and pasta preparation. A special highlight is the demonstration of wheat threshing using an original 1938 thresher. Members of local associations and artisans will also show how fabrics were made, night slippers sewn, woodwork carried out, and baskets crafted – all using traditional tools and techniques.
Visitors can take part in children’s workshops, make dolls in traditional costumes, and participate in creative and educational activities, while folk and ethno groups enrich the atmosphere with music and dance. Gastronomically, the event features the mushroom stew (gljivarski kotlić) by the Boletus association, and tastings offer historical flavors, traditional pasta, cakes, bread, and other dishes, paired with excellent wines from the Western Istrian wine region.
Guests can also meet farm animals, visit the L’Ortolano exhibition promoting local artisans and zero-kilometer products, and explore a small market of local products, souvenirs, and antiques.
This event uniquely combines the demonstration of past traditions and crafts with the experience of local gastronomy and culture, creating an unforgettable experience for all generations.
